US policymakers wake up to energy storage

A new report from the US Energy Storage Association (ESA) polled 44 state regulators and legislators and found that they are excited by the promise that energy storage technologies have to offer, but lack experience in implementing them… and that they want to know more about the subject. Specifically, both groups need more information on the various types of energy storage, their benefits and technical feasibility. The two diverged on some topics, with metrics comparing storage with other options being more important to regulators, whereas information about how energy storage impacts the performance of the grid being a greater priority for legislators. Given the findings of the report, it seems as though industry has an opportunity to persuade the policy makers, if we get the message right. Do you agree? Let us know what you think.
