Nano-brush boosts Li-ion battery storage

An innovation in electrode technology at Kansas State University could give lithium-ion batteries a 10-15% edge over current cells, say researcher Steven Arnold Klankowski and his supervisor, the aptly-named Professor Jun Li.

The electrode Klankowski is developing and testing has a nanostructure of silicon coated onto carbon nanofibers, resembling a minute brush and, say the team, give the battery greater charge capabilities and storage capacity.
