Liquid air to give UK advantage in Energy Storage sector?

27 September 2012
It’s early days yet, but Dr Tim Fox of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers thinks that liquid air and liquid nitrogen energy storage solutions are areas where the UK could steal a march over international rivals in the ES area.Speaking to Plant Engineer, he and several other UK engineers made the case for liquid air, highlighting the fact that whereas the country has little in the way of an advanced battery industry, it excels globally in the area of cryogenics. Harnessing this world-class expertise could allow the UK to grow its economy in an ES sector currently dominated by Asia and North America. What’s your view? Is liquid air a promising area for ES, or is it just this week’s pipe dream?
